Jimmy Carter: International Prize of Catalonia 2010

Resum: 

Former US President Jimmy Carter has been named as the winner of the 'Premi Internacional Catalunya', as a man of "heart and courage" in his defence of peace and human rights worldwide.. The Catalonian government awards the prize to people who have contributed to the development of cultural, scientific or human values. This year 197 candidates from 54 countries were nominated. The award will be given at a Ceremony in Barcelona on July 1st 2010.

The Generalitat de Catalunya created the 'Premi Internacional Catalunya' in 1989, with three clear objectives; to situate Catalonia on the scene of the great international awards, to recognize and stimulate creators and offer Catalans examples of the highest quality and demands in all senses. The Premi Internacional Catalunya is endowed with an award of 100 000 euros and the sculpture "The key and the Letter" of Antoni Tàpies.

Through this award to Jimmy Carter the jury has recognised the important contribution to peace and human rights made by former US President Jimmy Carter, in particular through the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity.
