The Confederation of Catalan NGOs gives support to the Tribunal Russell on Palestina

The federations of the Catalan Confederation of ONG for the Peace, the Human Rights and the Development manifest the adhesion and the support to the Tribunal Russell about Palestina. This Tribunal is promoted by the international civil society and make up of experts and jurists of world-wide renown. Barcelona vill host the first session of the Tribunal Rusell, 1-3 March-2010.

 

It will focus about the complicity of the European Union and their Member States, UN, and other international agents, in the violations of human rights in Palestina. The following sessions will be in London, New York and South-Africa as the venues, before 2012.

 

This initiative: from Ken Coates, President of the Bertrand Russell Foundation, Nurit Peled, from Israel and Sajárov prize for the freedom expression-2001, and Leila Shahid, Palestinian Delegate in the E.U.

 

The Tribunal wants to analyze the responsibilities of Israel, and other states and international organizations like the EU, the United Nations or the Arab League in the violations of Human Rights in Palestina. The Tribunal wants to reaffirm the pre-eminence of international regulation as a basis from the resolution of the conflict, to gauge the offenses in the application of the law and to make the appropriate denuntation for the international public opinion.

 

About the Tribunal Russell

 

The first Tribunal Russell was promoted in 1967, by Bertand Russell, to investigate and to judge the crimes of war in Vietnam. Personalities like Julio Cortázar, Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Chomsky, Naomi Klein, José Saramago, Eduardo Galeano and Ken Loach, have been linked to the Tribunal. Almost twenty countries have committees of support, and in Catalonia, the Tribunal Russell on Palestina is promoted by the Platform With Palestina in the Heart.
